Digital Photography Fundamentals


This is a 6-week comprehensive part-time course held in the Southern Suburbs - Cape Town. The course covers everything you need to know to get started in Digital photography. You will learn about your camera, light, settings, composition, and more. Each lesson in broken down into (1) Theory section, (2) Practical section, (3) Practical outings. Amounting to 2-hours per class, and email/message support to students throughout the duration of the course.

A 50% deposit is required with your course booking, and the balance payable within 7 days of your course start date. Tuition fees include a printed course manual with notes, and a list of further reading, suggested homework (practical) and other resources. If you are unable to take your course in 6 consecutive classes, we can arrange to accommodate your schedule accordingly.


Class 1 - Introduction to Photography

  • Camera and Equipment handling

  • Camera shoot modes

Class 2 - The Fundamentals

  • Overview of Class 1

  • Understanding Exposure, Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO

  • White Balance and Basic of Composition

Class 3 - Mastering Exposure + Practical Outing

  • Overview of Class 2

  • Exposure theory and techniques

  • In-camera exposure manipulation

  • Real-world supervised practical photography outing


Class 4 - Depth of field + Composition

  • Feedback on Class 3 outing

  • Working with Aperture

  • Compositional theory and techniques

Class 5 - Practical Outing

  • Overview of Classes 1-4

  • Real-world supervised practical photography outing

Class 6 - Post Processing

  • Feedback on Class 5

  • Introduction to file storage & workflow

  • Basic Image Processing/Editing

  • Image Sizing, Image Sharing, and Intro to Printing

  • Course Conclusion


Film Photography Basics Course


This course includes all the information and tutoring mentioned in the “Digital Photography Basics Course” and is tailored to focus specifically on the genre of 35mm film photography. The final class includes additional info on how to source and options on where to buy your new/used film camera.

If you are without a 35mm film camera and lens - I can provide one for use during lessons at no additional charge.
